I planned what I was going to wear.
I wrote down what I was going to say.
I got up early and took various modes of public transportation, just as a working girl (or soon to be) should.
The conversation flowed, the vibe was good.
It ended with a simple smile and a shake of the hand.
I felt confident.
I went to the bathroom to freshen up before I went on a 'look at me go!' mosey around the shops.
Oh yes, I most definitely forgot to do up half the buttons on my shirt.
Do you think they noticed?
When choosing my interview outfit, I mentioned that I wanted something a wee bit wild in order to bring out my personality.
A snazzy print per chance?
Maybe a nice looking pant?
Nudity really wasn't what I was aiming for. My fingers and toes are kept crossed in hoping that I woud have been able to get away with this one. I put it down to stress. Planning a future career is hard stuff, although not being able to dress yourself probably doesn't say much about the direction of your working life - or gives those who interview a very different idea of where your life might be heading...
What can I learn from this? Check yourself before you wreck yourself. Or I could simply not wear buttoned up shirts for future interviews, but that defeats the point.
I am a hop, skip and a jump away from graduating. It's about bloody time I threw the cap in the air, let me tell you. A mid-study break saw an extra year capped onto the lengthy process that is getting through University. I relish in the fact that I only have a number of months left to make a crap-load of mistakes and endure a shizzz load of cringe-factor 10 moments. Am I wrong in feeling like my youth is about to expire? From next year and until the end of time, I won't be able to have a few spontaneous drinks on a Sunday and savor a responsibility free Monday to recover. My 'work space (i.e. currently the library) won't be used as a place where I can avoid work and socialise. Don't get me wrong, I am more than ready to throw in the towel, however, the blunt realisation that this is the end of life as I know it is starting to kick in - one Warehouse purchased boot jab at a time.
Maybe my fashion faux pas is a sign? Is it my destiny to throw away my corporate dreams and take to the streets? Oh please God, let's hope not. I am sure I could still make a generous living however I do feel that my skills (and self dignity) would be better saved elsewhere. I don't think any of us expect to the 'job hunt' to be a walk in the park, heavens, the search for suitable attire was no picnic with the fairies! It's tough cooking from here kids. Here's to hoping that we rise up and dress for the occasion.
On another note - look at Barbie without makeup...
